SUMMERHILL
WORLD CLASS ACADEMICS
The barriers that prevent full understanding have been identified. Methods have been devised to overcome these barriers resulting in people who can study anything and use it correctly. At Summerhill we aim for 100% understanding and performance.
In the college we offer a broad range of internationally recognised qualifications, both academic and vocational, designed to develop successful students worldwide.
The Cambridge International Curriculum develops successful students in primary and secondary years. It is a flexible framework and the qualifications in it share common principles, underpinned by the best educational and assessment practice.

Cambridge IGCSE qualifications give students in secondary education an excellent preparation for their next steps, including progression to Cambridge International A/AS Level. The vision of the IEB is to advance quality teaching and learning in South Africa through an assessment process of integrity, innovation and international comparability.
The IEB is cognisant that assessment is essential in developing learners who are responsible South African citizens, able to negotiate the challenges of a global world.
The IEB’s mission is to make a significant, on-going contribution to human resource development through the design, delivery and promotion of a wide range of high quality, affordable assessment products and services to all sectors.
Through our assessments, we are motivated to develop learners who are:
Critical users of information
Problem solvers
Lifelong learners
Ethical reasoners
Creative and reflective thinkers
Society members respectful of diversity, particularly in the Southern African context
Active citizens who are committed to upholding the principles of the South African Constitution and the wellbeing of all people
The IEB qualification is a recognised South African qualification and is regulated by UMALUSI. It is also recognised internationally for students wishing to study at an overseas university.

CAPS
What is the CAPS?
CAPS stands for Curriculum Assessment Policy Statements. It is a revision of the current National Curriculum Statement (NCS).
With the introduction of CAPS, every subject in each grade has a single, comprehensive and concise policy document that provides details on what teachers need to teach and assess on a grade-by-grade and subject-by-subject basis.
This curriculum review has the aim of ensuring that there is clear guidance and consistency for teachers when teaching. This curriculum is used as a guideline for IEB but Cambridge uses a completely different curriculum.
