What is Cambridge IGCSE in South Africa?

Cambridge IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is an internationally recognised qualification for students aged 14 to 16. It is offered by Cambridge Assessment International Education, a part of the University of Cambridge, and is taken by students in numerous countries worldwide, including South Africa.

In South Africa, the Cambridge IGCSE program is available in many schools as an alternative to the national curriculum. It is designed to provide a broad and balanced education while promoting critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and international perspectives. The subjects covered in Cambridge IGCSE include languages, economics, sciences, mathematics, humanities, and creative arts.

Obtaining Cambridge IGCSE qualifications can open doors for South African students to pursue further education both locally and internationally. These qualifications are widely recognised by universities, colleges, and employers around the world, providing students with opportunities for higher education or entry into the workforce.

About the Cambridge IGCSE Economics Syllabus

The Cambridge IGCSE Economics syllabus develops an understanding of economic theory, terminology and principles. Learners study the economics of different countries and how these interrelate. They also learn to work with simple economics data and to use the tools of economic analysis. Learners apply understanding of economics to current economic issues.

The Cambridge IGCSE Economics syllabus provides a foundation for further study, including Cambridge International AS & A Level Economics, or the equivalent.

The Cambridge IGCSE Economics syllabus provides a foundation for further study, including Cambridge International AS & A Level Economics, or the equivalent.

The Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) in Economics is assessed through two external examinations: Paper 1 and Paper 2.

Paper 1 assesses the knowledge and understanding of economic principles and concepts, while Paper 2 assesses the application of economic principles to real-world issues.

Both papers consist of a mix of multiple-choice, structured and essay questions, and are marked by trained examiners according to a set of assessment criteria established by Cambridge.

The marks awarded for each question are based on the extent to which the student has demonstrated their understanding of the economic principles, their ability to apply them to real-world issues, and their communication and analytical skills.

The overall grade for the IGCSE in Economics is based on the combined marks for both papers, with grades ranging from A* to G, with A* being the highest grade achievable.

Cambridge also provides detailed grading descriptors and exemplar responses to help examiners maintain consistent and fair grading standards across all candidates.

We wish Sathvika many more successes in the future and would like to congratulate Mr David Nyatsambo on producing such astounding results from his students.
