Principal – Summerhill Nursery School

At Summerhill Nursery School, we believe that sporting excellence begins long before children step onto a competitive sports field. Through our Young STEPs Sport Talent Programme and Integrated Mini Sports Coaching Programme, we provide young learners with the skills, confidence, and opportunities needed to develop a lifelong love of sport.

Now in our fourth year of focused sports development at grassroots level, we are beginning to see the results of this investment. The impressive performances of our Grade 1, 2 and 3 soccer and netball teams are a direct reflection of the strong sporting foundation established during their nursery school years.

From the age of four, children participate in professional, age-appropriate coaching designed to develop fundamental movement skills, coordination, balance, teamwork, resilience, and self-confidence. Through exposure to a wide range of sporting disciplines, including Cricket, Tennis, Soccer, Netball, Athletics and Hockey, learners are encouraged to discover their strengths, explore new interests, and unlock their potential.

Our approach focuses on creating positive sporting experiences that foster both skill development and a healthy attitude towards competition. Children learn the value of perseverance, cooperation, discipline, and sportsmanship while having fun and building confidence.

The success of our young athletes is about far more than winning matches. It represents years of quality coaching, purposeful skill development, and a commitment to nurturing well-rounded children who are prepared to embrace challenges both on and off the field.

As these learners continue their journey through the preparatory school, their achievements serve as a powerful reminder of the value of investing in sport from an early age. At Summerhill, mini sports success truly starts at the grassroots.
