From the Headmaster’s Desk

Greetings Summerhill Family

Planning ahead

We are all familiar with the story of the race between Scott and Amundson to be the first to reach the South Pole. We must also put it in perspective; this happened in an era with no cellular communication, no weather apps, and no motorized transport that had the technology to deal with the polar conditions. So, in preparation for this arduous journey on foot, careful planning was the order of the day. Amundson triumphed and Scott and his men unfortunately succumbed to the elements due to a lack of preparation. This story is worth a read.

On record, Amundson said that victory awaits he who has everything in order – “good luck” they call it! Defeat is certain for he who has neglected to take the necessary precautions – “bad luck” they call it! Is it then not possible to make your own luck through thorough preparation?

I repeat the words of Malcolm X, “Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today”.

We can then deduce that excellence is not a skill, but an attitude, a way of living. It decides the success or failure of any business, school, or student. Our lives are thus a reflection of what we do, and more importantly how we do it!

Excellence is never an accident, it is a process, a journey, not a destination. So, the will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential…. These are the keys that unlock the door to personal excellence.

A friendly reminder from the Headmaster to make the right choices regarding your attitude, because your education forms the wings on which your dreams take flight.

My message in this newsletter is to remind parents and pupils that term two is an examination term, with a heavy workload and a tight schedule. Please look at your test and exam timetables and PLAN ahead.

I wish you well for the second term!

Yours in Education
