From the desk of Mrs. Sonya Toet Principal Summerhill Nursery School

Excitement fills the air each morning at Summerhill Nursery School with our special “Move-it, Move-it” mornings, taking place from 7:15 to 7:30am.
In an innovative adaptation of the widely celebrated Golden Mile initiative—prevalent across UK primary schools—our version, dubbed the “Mini-Golden Mile,” aims to invigorate our young learners’ mornings. This initiative is not just an exercise; it’s a commitment to enhancing the health, concentration, and overall well-being of our pupils.
Objective: A Leap Towards Healthier Futures
Our primary goal is multifaceted: to foster improved health, combat obesity, and significantly enhance concentration levels during classroom sessions. Participating in the Mini-Golden Mile involves children from all grades engaging in walking, jogging, or running around a specifically designated section of our sports fields for a set period. This simple yet effective physical activity is structured to fit seamlessly into their daily routine.
Proven Benefits: Beyond Physical Fitness
Recent studies have highlighted the Golden Mile’s effectiveness, noting remarkable improvements in not just physical fitness but also concentration levels, mood, and classroom behavior. The enhanced ability to focus leads to better academic performance and information retention, underscoring the initiative’s holistic benefits.
A Commitment to Joyful and Active Learning
At Summerhill Nursery School, we are dedicated to providing our children with opportunities to thrive physically and mentally in a safe and joyful environment. The “Move-it, Move-it” mornings are more than just a fitness routine; they represent our commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals prepared to excel both inside and outside the classroom.
Join us in making every morning a step towards a healthier, happier future for our children.
