Summerhill Preparatory hosted our annual on-site Creative Arts Exhibition on the 3rd and 4th of August 2022 with the theme of our 30th Anniversary being celebrated.
Grade One, Two and Three students showcased a vast variety of art pieces centred around the exploration of different mediums in Art. The students created artworks focused on collaboration as a grade such as the Grade 1 “Summerhill’s 30th Cupcake Stand” and the Grade 2 “Kandinsky Circles”. Colourful self-portraits, radiant “Blue Peacocks” and “Pink Flamingos” filled the room. Students experimented with various textures in creating their art such as using bubble wrap to create backgrounds, cotton wool to create texture and straw-blown paint to create lines. Our students have shown us that little hands can make big things when given the platform to do so.
Grade Four, Five, Six and Seven students displayed an intriguing array of artwork. Themes and skills range from “School Emblem”, “Cake Design of Summerhill’s 30th Birthday Celebration” using Andy Warhol Pop Art Techniques, “Ocean’s Day”, “Romero Britto Owls”, “Abstract Faces”, “Pointillism”, “Biodiversity at Summerhill”, “Paisley Radiating Patterns”, “African Masks”, “Summerhill School Uniform”, “Architecture at Summerhill School” etc. Students were allowed the freedom to demonstrate an artistic voice of their own.
The exhibition was a colourful, and vibrant celebration of the incredible talent we have at Summerhill School. From emulating icons in the field of art like Wassily Kandinsky, Romero Britto and Keith Haring the exhibition stood as a platform for young minds to transcend the boundaries of their inherent aesthetic potential.
