From the Desk of Mrs Sadie Naidoo Head of Grade 3 and Event Co-Ordinator

Each year on the 18th of July, we focus on making a difference in our communities to mark Nelson Mandela International Day. As it was Summerhill’s 30th anniversary, we held a momentous charity drive at school. This year our Mandela Day initiative focussed on collecting five hundred blankets and teddy bears for the indigent communities around us. Summerhill students and parents contributed generously to this initiative. Students wore their brightly coloured shirts to symbolise our rainbow nation. In the Junior Phase, students participated in engaging activities and were treated to listening to Nelson Mandela’s favourite folktales. Nelson Mandela was remembered for his achievements and the positive change he made.

“Our children are the rock on which our future will be built, our greatest asset as a nation. They will be leaders of our country, the creators of our national wealth, those who care for and protect our people.” – Nelson Mandela

Let us continue Mandela’s legacy and make every day a Mandela Day.
