From the Desk of Caressa Govender (Grade 0 Head)
Nelson Mandela once said that the youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow. The children of Summerhill Nursery lead by example by giving back to children in need
on Mandela Day. Stationery packs were donated to the children of Bathabeleng Children’s Home in Ivory Park after a fire ravaged their place of safety in early July.
The nursery children and staff took a significant 67 steps, stopping every 10 steps to create packs of stationery. Packs contained everything from books and pens to book
covers and gift wrap. Resources for the initiative were generously donated by Freedom Stationery.
Great love and empathy were demonstrated by the children as they were aware of the circumstances of the children they were donating to. The stationery packs were then taken to the children’s home and distributed to the children and there was even enough to share with another nursery school. We are so proud of our children for showing so much of love and care towards those in need!
