Mother’s Day is the special time of year when we get to celebrate our first best friend and the person we can always turn to when we need advice. Mother’s Day is also a great time to show our love for all the other wonderful women in our lives. During the first week back at school in Term 2, this is exactly what all our Summerhill students took the opportunity to do.
In the Junior Phase the students with assistance from Coach Thulani and their teachers put together a living gift to outlast the occasion and to symbolise the love and devotion between a mother and her child. Coach Thulani helped the students prepare and pot Spekboom plantlings. This succulent is an environmental miracle worker with the potential to tackle carbon emissions like no other plant can. Students made and decorated beautiful cards with special messages for their mums as well.
In the Senior Phase the Grade Four students got creative with an activity that is sure to leave a mark in the hearts (and books) of their mums this Mother’s Day.
The Grade Five students spoke about “Why their mom is the best” and created lovely, heartwarming cards as a surprise for Mother’s Day.
The Grade Six students created beautiful cards for their mothers. This, they promised, would accompany a perfectly brewed cup of tea or coffee for Mom on her special day!
The Grade Seven students created foldable pop-up appreciation cards for their mothers.
We trust that all our special Summerhill moms had a beautiful Mother’s Day filled with lots of love, laughter, hugs and kisses from their precious children, and enjoyed the spoils that the students worked on just for them.
