The 4 March 2022 was a beautiful morning to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Summerhill School.
Sonja Morshead started the school 30 years ago with just 13 students on, what was then, a humble farm. As the school grew, she saw the opportunity to fulfil a dream to create an educational environment, which respects all religious beliefs, fosters integrity, decency and courage, and allows each student to flourish, prosper and ultimately realise their full potential and ability as leaders.
She continued to lead the school to a unique space where her strong vison shone through. This vision remains to raise the ability, initiative and cultural level in the education process, so that the students may thrive and be part of raising the survival level of society.
The schools goal rests, as Sonja Morshead always said, “ to help develop people who can think, judge and express their artistic and creative potential, meet the sporting challenge and finally, value and conserve their natural environment and its living creatures.”
Countless amazing student successes have come out of the school over the many years. The school has grown from strength to strength with the help of a wonderful group of executives and staff.
Since her retirement the running of the Nursery, Prep and College is in the very capable hands of a team of incredible people today – lead by three beautiful principals Sonya Toet, Vashni Chetty and Jessica Fritz respectively – not forgetting the amazing Vice Principal of the Prep Janessa Rajeev.
