For 13 years, World Read Aloud Day has called attention to the importance of sharing stories by challenging participants to grab a book, find an audience, and read-aloud! The global effort, created by the non-profit LitWorld and sponsored by Scholastic, is celebrated annually in over 173 countries and is all about bringing people together through the shared connection of reading aloud in all of our communities.

On 2 February 2022, the Summerhill Prep students celebrated World Read Aloud Day. We commemorated the event by reading the special story that Nal’ibali publishes every year for this special day.

Our Grade 1 to 3 teachers read the story to their students in English. Our councillors practised the story in English, isiZulu and Afrikaans and on the day, the Grade 4 to 7 students could choose in which language they wanted to listen to the story. This year marks Nal’ibali’s 10th annual celebration of World Read Aloud Day and Summerhill is very proud to be part of it!
