December News

Dear Parents,

This week’s newsletter discusses the value of reading with your child.

One of the most important things parents can do, beyond keeping kids healthy and safe, is to read with them. We cannot stress enough the incredible value of daily storytelling to children. Not only do you spend quality time bonding with your child, but you also develop their vocabulary, grammar, sentence construction and expressive language.

Active participation in story listening has been shown to have a positive effect on a young child’s reading ability.

Encourage your child to actively listen to the story by asking open-ended questions about what they think happens next, or what they believe the characters are thinking or feeling. Asking questions about the content will help build their listening and comprehension skills.
