Summerhill Grade Threes lead Mandela Day initiative
Nelson Mandela International Day is an annual international day in honour of Nelson Mandela. It is celebrated on the 18th of July. The objective of the day is to inspire individuals to take action to help change the world for the better. The Summerhill Grade Threes lead the initiative this year. They delivered a short overview of who Nelson Mandela was and why we celebrate his birthday.
A challenge was sent out to all children to perform 67 acts of kindness in the month of July. An inspirational list was handed out to give some helpful ideas. These included helping around the house without being asked and smiling a Good Morning at everyone! The Summerhill Preparatory students collected cans of food and sandwich spreads to donate to orphanages in need, and so helping children less fortunate than them. The week culminated with this collection being handed over to a Children’s Home.
