Summerhill College student awarded a First prize at the IT Showcase 2019
The IT Showcase 2019 is in its eighth year and is an initiative aimed at creating a platform for South African Grade 12 IT learners to gain exposure for their Matric IT projects. The competition was held on 19th Sept at RedHill School, Morningside. There were 16 teams from various schools including St John’s, King David, Crawford Sandton and St Benedicts participating tis year. Juniors were also welcomed to showcase their own drones, robots, electronic inventions and coding.
The IT Showcase 2019, programming competition has created a meeting place between Grade 12 IT students, businesses and tertiary institutions and saw Grade 12 learners showcasing projects of an exceptional standard. These projects were coded during the matric year. A Summerhill College student awarded a First prize at the IT Showcase 2019
Azola Koloki a Summerhill College student, participated in the competition and won First prize in “Most User-friendly” category. He created a software program for “Inventory Management” using Java and SQL with features of ‘chat’ and ‘email’. His work was well appreciated by judges from WITS and UJ. Mrs Bharani, a Summerhill Educator can be credited for providing Azola with training and valuable help and input towards his submission. Roselyn M also helped Azola with documentation for the project and supported him throughout at the show.
Summerhill School is extremely proud of Azola and wish him luck for his future endeavours.
IT EXPO- VISIT
Summerhill College Grade 11s and AS1s amongst many others, had the opportunity to visit RedHill School, Morningside on 19th Sept 2019 as well. Here they had the opportunity to get exposure to the many projects on display by grade 12 students. These projects used many languages like Java, C++, C# and Unity. This was indeed a learning experience for our grade 11 and AS1 students. It was also great to see a Summerhill College student awarded a First prize at the IT Showcase 2019.
