Summerhill Nursery School, Preparatory School and College has a  uniquely diverse offering to our students and parents.  We are highly-regarded for our eco-friendly grounds (which include a wetland and an outdoor classroom), our recycling initiatives (we have won the Mpact trophy for three consecutive years) and our back-to-nature classroom setup.  These features allow children to leave the city “behind” when they enter our gates.  Furthermore, there is no traffic – much cleaner air, and plenty of well-inhabited trees and birdsong, that all offer a relaxing and healthy environment to thrive in.  And that’s just the conducive environment we offer.

We also have a full range of sport and extra murals and facilitate a world class education by offering Cambridge A Levels. This is ideal for students wishing to continue studying abroad.

Add to that the opportunity for our students to participate in  The President’s Award Youth Empowerment programme (also known as The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award). Successful completion of this programme is known to be a decisive factor in the allocation of space at international universities, as well as  bursary opportunities.  An added advantage is the enhanced prospect of employment associated with the programme.

The value of Summerhill College offering its students Cambridge A levels:

  • A Levels are generally considered to be a post-matric qualification although universities abroad require an A Level as an entrance requirement.
  • A Levels are advantageous in that the standard of the qualification is very high and in some universities (this is faculty dependant) it can result in being awarded credits towards your chosen field of study.
  • A Levels require a lot of dedication, hard work and an ability to work independently and is an effective way to prepare for the rigours of the academic life at university.

Students are required to attain a minimum of Grade C at AS level to be able to pursue A Level subjects. However students who have done IEB will need a minimum of an A aggregate to apply for A Levels.  They also need to take into account that it may not always be possible to complete the qualification in one year.

Our sincere congratulations to these students who have chosen to remain at Summerhill for an additional year (post-matric) to pursue this advantageous A Level qualification.
